Motive Still Unknown in Last Night’s Home Invasion/Stabbing Case

Earlier today the Eureka Police Department released more information on last night’s stabbing. Here’s the press release. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

On 02/09/16 at about 8:48 p.m., Officers with the Eureka Police Department responded to a residence on the 800 block of H Street for the report of a stabbing that had just occurred. The male victim was located on the front porch of the residence and was bleeding from a cut to his knee and hand.

The victim reported that male subjects forced entry into the residence through the back door and that he used a knife to defend himself. While Officers were searching for suspects, a male phoned 911 reporting that he and his brother had just been stabbed and were driving to the hospital. The brothers were identified as John Robert Long (33) and Ryan Blaine Long (30) originally from Pennsylvania. The brothers were interviewed at the hospital.

Interviews and physical evidence preliminary show that the Longs forced their way into the residence on H Street. The victim armed himself with a knife and a violent struggle ensued in the kitchen. All three males received stab wounds that were reported as not life threatening.

John and Ryan Long received medical treatment and were booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility for burglary, criminal threats, conspiracy, and battery causing serious bodily injury.

The victim required surgery to a knee injury but is expected to recover. The victim and suspects are acquaintances however the actual motive is unknown at this time.

The motive should not matter. The crime was a violent act. The Longs were arrested for the violent act. Case closed. The Longs need to be kept in jail, and the police need to stop trying to make more out of this. Now will Maggie Flemming let them out?

Maybe they sprinkled to much sugar on their scrapple. And had a sugar high meltdown. Most likely the brothers will be shunned when they return to the farm.
