Garbage Truck Overturned Near Willits, Driver Has Major Injuries

Caltrans provided this photo of the overturned semi which closed Hwy 101 for hours yesterday.

Press release from the California Highway Patrol:

On 02-09-2016 at approximately [11:44 a.m.], Jose Nieto was driving a semi truck (Solid Waste of Willits) S/B on US-101 south of Walker Road. This collision occured when the driver attempted to negotiate a 20 mph curve and overturned.  The semi truck was towing a 45′ trailer loaded with garbage. The semi truck slid on its side and hit the K-rail. No other vehicles were involved. Jose was transported for major injuries to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. Alcohol is not considered to be a factor in this collision. The roadway was closed for approximately 6 hours for clean up and removal of the semi truck, trailer, and garbage. This collision is still under investigation.
