Road Stuff You Might Want to Know

If you are headed south on Hwy 101 or west across Hwy 20, here’s a few things that you might want to know about.

First, Hwy 101:

  • UPDATE 12:50 p.m.: A big rig wreck south of Willits is slowing down traffic. Here’s more on that story here.

  • Earlier today a tractor-trailer caught on fire and burned at the Irvine Lodge Rest Area on Northbound U.S. Highway 101 just north of Willits. Caltrans stated, “Fire crews extinguished the fire quickly; no hazardous materials were present, and no fluids leaked onto the ground.” The rest stop is now open though.

Hwy 20 AKA Route 20:

  • If you are planning on taking Hwy 20, be aware that emergency paving work has caused what Caltrans calls, “exceedingly long delays.” They say that they are working with the contractor to “educe delays to no more than 10 minutes.” Caltrans provided the map below of the affected area. Plan extra time into trips through the area.12688217_1022603937780883_1479451773910567551_n
  • Caltrans also warns, “On Thursday, February 11 and Tuesday, February 16 the northbound U.S. Highway 101 offramp to eastbound Route 20 will be closed from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. The southbound 101 offramp to 20 will remain open.  A detour will be available using the West Road/Redwood Valley interchange. Motorists should anticipate a 5-minute delay taking the detour in addition to the 10-minute delay on Route 20 due to emergency paving.”
