Big Rig Wreck South of Willits–Traffic Is Moving SLLLOOOOWWWLY
A big rig rolled over on Hwy 101 just south of Willits. The road was completely closed in both directions for a time until a patient was extricated and transported to the hospital by helicopter.
“SB has been opened,” writes Eli Rohl spokesperson for Caltrans as of 12:45 p.m. “NB is being rerouted onto the bypass.” At this point expect slow downs through the area as the contents of the trailer are all over the road. Traffic is reportedly moving slowly through the area.
UPDATE 1:16 p.m.: Danielle Burkhart sends us this photo of traffic moving through the area.

[…] UPDATE 12:50 p.m.: A big rig wreck south of Willits is slowing down traffic. Here’s more on that story here. […]
“NB is being rerouted onto the bypass.” Are they the first ones to experience the Willits bypass?
Nope! We’ve used that as a detour in the past when there’s been a collision on the normal route – I don’t know offhand how many times.
I hope the bypass doesn’t sink into the swamp again what with all that heavy traffic!
That bypass is sure a sore subject!!wish eureka would have put theirs in years back, would have solved alot of headaches.
Oppps I hope the driver is going to be ok.take care
Northbound traffic is using the south interchange only to get around the closure.
Humboldt’s garbage, headed to Ukiah. That temporary corner should have caused CalTrans some fines, it is extremely unsafe.
Cal Trans own photo. Wonder why they don’t want anyone to see the garbage?
Was stuck in this mess for a while, traffic was backed way back into downtown willets, glad they had the access road for the bypass or traffic would have been worse, great engineering on that little twist in a major vein of transportation, I wish the engineer had to pick up all the garbage from this mess
