An assault victim was taken to the hospital about 10 p.m. following an attack with a baseball bat in the 3000 block of 18th Street near Stephanie Court in Eureka.

According to the scanner, the victim, a 32-year-old male, suffered a significant deformity of his upper lip and a laceration on his head.

The suspect fled.

We’ll update as soon as possible.

UPDATE 10:16 p.m.: Sgt. Sam Williams of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department tells Oliver Cory, our reporter on the scene, that the victim did not want to press charges. The injuries appeared minor to moderate, he said.

UPDATE 11:05 p.m.: Williams said the man was assaulted by “two to three people in beanies or stocking caps, ski-mask-style hoods.”

How awful! He must have been terrified. I hope they catch them.
Why won’t people press charges? Too much time spent with paper work & follow ups?

Maybe he’s afraid of retaliation, maybe he knows his attackers or who they are affiliated with…the story doesn’t tell what happened prior to the attack

You should watch what you say, that was my brother who was attacked and it wasn’t drug related. Don’t ASSUME when you have no clue what the hell you’re talking about!! Wrong place wrong time situation.

That house is under daily watch. It has no electricity and people go in and out at all hours. It is a known drug house.

I can see that, when a person is too weak spirited at the time to muster outrage over living a life of fear. What’s that old saying? Ah yes, Give me liberty from oppression & fear or may the angels have mercy on your soul.

It could have been over marijuana like most of the crimes in Humboldt County. Sometimes the dope smoker punks will mistake a decent human being for one of their own kind and beat the crap out of them over stupid stuff. Best thing is to not go to places where you might get into trouble.

So america was a rough place a long time ago and still is now (especially Eureka), which is why we have the right to bear arms.
If you aren’t a convicted felon you may legally purchase a firearm, then proceed to a concealed carry permit.
(Criminals don’t have or need either and have guns)
I certainly can’t be the only one that noticed the victim was unarmed and had no real way to protect his life and property.
This is exactly where they want you, helpless, to call 911 to wait it out, to once again hand control off to some higher entity, like your local understaffed, overwhelmed law enforcenemt.
But to wait for what?
Some criminal drugged out mind to take your life or beat you in to a bloody pulp?
Possibly leaving you disfigured or hanycapped ,disabled for the rest of your life?
Time to wake up people,… if you like or love your life you might want to give thought to actually having to protect it.
Times have changed in case you haven’t noticed. I also will add to take firearm safety and self defense courses, which our government should actually already have offered to host free of cost.
Yet they tell us so call, sit and wait while some mad tweeker is molesting our lifes and loved ones.
Law abiding citizens, wake up, and be ready for the worst, just look at the zombies to your left and right when you enter the city of Eureka from either end.
Be a victim no longer, the police is busy trying to create revenue with dui checkpoints and speed traps, leaving not much time to fight actual crime let alone protect and serve, which hasn’t been the motto for a long time anyways.
Criminals just the same as government should be aware that the people are the ones in charge not any other way around..
