School’s Out for the Klamath-Trinity Joint Unified School District
The slide on Hwy 96 approximately three miles south of Hoopa and heavy rains predicted for tonight prompted the Klamath-Trinity Joint Unified School District to cancel classes tomorrow.
At least one school in the area, Hoopa High, was only open in a limited capacity today as the slide kept several teachers from reaching the campus.
Hwy 96 is currently open to one-way controlled traffic, according to a post put up on the Caltrans Facebook page a little before 5 p.m., but the slide is extremely active. Expect long delays if traveling in the area.

Hoopa Valley Elementary was also in session and the school day was cancelled mid morning.
Staff and teachers worked diligently to contact all families during the school day to come and pick up their children.
Students were doing their job of being students, teachers were teaching and the kitchen crew rocking out a great breakfast and lunch meal. Thank you to all the staff and teachers and administrators who were able to make it past the slide and get to work.
And know that those who could not make it in were frustrated and worried over their students.
I am grateful for Cal Trans and their efforts to deal with the slide.
Wishing all a restful weekend and stay safe.
Thank you for the update!
