EPD Honors Volunteer

GS3Press release from the Eureka Police Department:

The Eureka Police Department (EPD) is committed to cultivating positive and supportive relationships with those we serve through improving relationships, greater community engagement, and collaboration. We value community partnerships and recognize that only by working together can we truly protect and enhance the future of Eureka.

In December 2015, EPD established a new award to specifically recognize the exemplary work of Eureka’s most dedicated citizen-volunteers. The Community Service and Volunteerism Award is intended for individual(s) who have most embodied the spirit of volunteerism and selfless service in our community over the past year. For example, a recipient of the award might have organized a successful project that involved a close partnership between EPD and the community to improve quality of life, reduce or prevent crime, or otherwise enhance the future of Eureka.

Yesterday afternoon, during a private ceremony at his Eureka residence, Gary L. Swanson became the first recipient of the Community Service and Volunteerism Award. This award was inspired by Gary who served honorably as a member of the Eureka Volunteer Patrol (EVP) for over 17 years (1998-2015). During this time, Gary volunteered over 6,200 hours in selfless service to the Eureka Police Department and his community.

EPD hopes this award will also inspire others to take action and follow in the footsteps of remarkable individuals like Gary.
