[UPDATE 10:30 p.m.] Flooding Information

With torrential downpours and warm weather melting the mountain snow today, four rivers in northwestern California are now predicted to reach flood stage either late today or early tomorrow. (UPDATE only three rivers are predicted to flood now.

UPDATE at 10:30 p.m.: The Mad River which was not predicted to flood is now past flood stage. The last recorded height is 22.69 feet. The results of this are likely, according to the California Nevada River Forecast Center, to be:

15.0 Feet Minor flooding begins on the Mad River Beach Road near Tyee City.
18.0 Feet Minor flooding on Mad River Beach Road near Tyee City.
21.0 Feet Flooding of Mad River Beach Road. Water may be flowing over roads to Tyee City. Flooding will be enhanced if the time of the crest is coincident with high tides and strong onshore winds.
22.0 Feet Significant flooding of portions of Mad River Beach Road. Water may flow across roads to Tyee City. Flood impacts will be aggravated by high tides and strong onshore winds.

UPDATE at 10:30 p.m.: The Navarro is now predicted to reach flood stage around midnight. and crest about 2 a.m. at 23.6 feet. The results of this are likely, according to the California Nevada River Forecast Center, to be:

23.0 Feet Flooding of Highway 128 approximately 5 miles from Highway 1. Motorists should use alternative routes.

UPDATE at 10:30 p.m.: The Eel River is predicted to reach flood stage around midnight tonight and crest at 22 feet around 9 a.m. tomorrow. The results of this flooding are likely, according to the California Nevada River Forecast Center, to be:

18.0 Feet Flooding of western portions of Cannibal Island Road, Camp Weott Road, and adjacent areas is likely. This level may also cause flooding of the Salt River, Old River and other low-lying slough areas. Flooding in these areas is exaggerated when crest timing is coincident with high tides and strong onshore winds, and when the river remains high for longer periods.
20.0 Feet Significant flooding of the western portions of Cannibal Island Road, Camp Weott Road, the Salt and Old Rivers and all adjacent low-lying areas. Flooding in these areas is exaggerated when crest timing is coincident with high tides and strong onshore winds, and for longer duation events. A Special Action Advisory is being issued to all owners of livestock in low-lying areas of the Eel Delta. These animals are at risk due to rising river levels and appropriate action should be considered.
22.0 Feet The western half of the Eel Delta may be completely flooded, especially if at or above this level for an extended period of time. This include areas northwest of Loleta, Cannibal Island Road. A Special Action Advisory is being issued to all owners of livestock in low-lying areas of the Eel Delta. These animals are at risk due to rising river levels, and appropriate action should be considered.

UPDATE at 10:30 p.m.: The Van Duzen River at Bridgeville crested about 5 p.m. at flood stage (About 17 feet) and is now dropping.

The stage is set and this time Mother is not messing around. Big ocean waves, huge snow pack, torrential (warm) rains. I just hope the low lying farmers read the writing on the wall and evacuated their animals. I think sometimes people get complacent with the constant flooding of the lowlands.

It was starting to flood on 36 near the fire hall at 10 this morning also lots of small slides and flooding past bridgeville its way worse east more rain.

Thank you Scooter for that link but what is flood stage for the Mattole? We’re definitely pumping out the cubic feet but the graph didn’t indicate flood stage in feet? The levee down by Honeydew Creek is flooded over and impassable but it does that all the time.
