[UPDATE 4:20 p.m.] Hwy 299 Closed at Big Bar Due to Slide, Hwy 96 Closed, Too

CaptureCaltrans Quick Maps reports that Hwy 299 is closed at Big Bar due to an “active slide.” As of 11:05 a.m., the California Highway Patrol Incident page was reporting this slide “will probably be a long term closure [as] its unsafe to get [equipment] to clear slide.”

Note the two other triangles on the map show that Hwy 96 is closed due to a slide south of Hoopa and Hwy 299 has one way controlled traffic near Salyer. Also, Hwy 101 has one way controlled traffic south of Crescent City. (See here for more on that story.)

UPDATE 4:20 p.m.: The slide near Big Bar is still active and the road is not expected to open today.
