About 6 p.m. Eureka Police Department began looking for a suspect in the area of Leon’s Car Care. For a tense hour, law enforcement has been closing in on the suspect who is wanted for multiple charges ranging from evading police to weapons, and stolen vehicles.

As of 7:23 p.m., according to the scanner, a Eureka Captain states he is going to attempt to reach the suspect with a public address system.

According to our reporter Oliver Cory, at 7:27 p.m, someone from law enforcement is talking on the public address system telling the suspect to come out with his hands up from a building in the area.

UPDATE 7:32 p.m.: “They’re trying to tempt him with warmth and food,” Cory tells us.

UPDATE 8:04 p.m.: More photos including one of the EPD officer aloft in a Firetruck ladder attempting to locate the suspect. The suspect was not found on the roof. [See below photos for further updates.]image image image image

UPDATE 8:35 p.m.:  According to scanner traffic, officers have spotted the suspect in the attic of the building they are currently searching.

UPDATE 8:37 p.m.: Scanner traffic indicates that they have a male suspect in custody and a female at gunpoint.

UPDATE 8:45 p.m.: A woman of about 25-30 ran out of the El Buen Gusto, says Robert Kroeker. She was captured at gunpoint as noted above.  The suspect was brought out in handcuffs. Another man is being held in a third vehicle.

Officers appear to be going back in for another search, said Kroeker.

UPDATE 8:50 p.m.: Below are photos from Cory as two subjects are detained. The area is being declared clear. [New updates below the photos.]

UPDATE 8:52 p.m.: Two suspects are in custody and another person has been detained during tonight’s search.

UPDATE 9 p.m.:

The original suspect EPD was searching for is Brett Hansen. He was in the news (Click link to see photo) following an October 20th incident. During that incident, Hansen escaped an attempted traffic stop by fleeing in a green Subaru. At one point the vehicle he was driving was involved in a collision in McKinleyville (see here for earlier story) but Hansen continued to flee on foot and evaded pursuit.

UPDATE 9:20 p.m.:
Basic facts from the Press Conference: The Arcata Police told the EPD that a stolen vehicle may be on the way to the 800 block of Broadway. An EPD Officer found the stolen vehicle behind the fence. A perimeter was set up. During that time the suspect was seen to pop his head up. Another male was detained and that man informed the EPD that there may be a female with the suspect. The suspect, Brett Hansen, is the son of the original reporting party.

UPDATE 9:35 p.m.: Capt. Steve Watson tells us that a firearm was also located. Halli Lee Pole was the female suspect arrested, he said.

UPDATE 9:49 p.m.: The audio from Captain Watson talking about the firearm that was found.

UPDATE 10:12 p.m.: Two tweets from Captain Watson tonight show the recovered gun and state that Hansen will face additional charges. Here is the one showing the 12 gauge shotgun.

The police should have given them a doughnut. And told them to remain closer to church oriented activities.
