Snow in Mountain Passes, Bring Chains

It’s wintery weather across much of northern California’s roads that travel through mountain passes. Below is a screen shot of Caltrans Quick Maps which shows the numerous areas with the chained tire icon. Every place you see that, chains are required on state highways and the yellow triangle on 299 indicates there are weather conditions on Berry Summit.

Note that Hwy 36 and Hwy 3 both have multiple areas requiring chains. Chains are not required on 299 currently but there is snow along the highway.

Before you travel today, please check in with Quickmap to see what road conditions are.

I once went over 36 in the snow without chains… Memorable and not recommended… Carry chains…!

Why when I get on Caltrans website do I not see anything about chains being required on 36?
