Code 2 means to drive directly to the destination. Lights, when used, are always code 3. The siren is to be used as necessary. Code 1 means when you get around to it. Code 2 means proceed directly to non emergency. Code 3 means to expidite using lights and when necessary siren to request the right of way. Under code 2, the emergency vehicle is to abide by all traffic laws. Under code 3, the emergency vehicle is exempt from most traffic laws including speeding and signs. However, the driver is responsible to drive in a safe and prudent manor.
