Everybody is welcome to the Community Christmas Dinner at the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars hall at 483 Conger Street in Garberville tomorrow Friday. Santa has lots of toys and goodies for the children.

This year, VFW member Tom Pietila explained, Toys for Tots sent “an abundance of toys.” He encouraged low income families to come by. “Families with kids that are not well off should make a real effort,” he said. “Not very many kids came last year,” he said. “They got about 10 presents each.”

Dinner will be served between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Santa Claus is expected to come between 3:30-4 p.m. “We’ve got 50 pies,” said Pietila. “Everybody is invited–especially the ones that are home alone…It’s for everybody. It’s a community dinner. The VFW works at it.  It is kind of a family affair for us.”

There will be vegetarian and vegan options.

The 4-H decorated the Veteran’s Hall. Multiple business owners donated money and goods. “We do have blankets, sweaters and some mittens and plenty of socks,” Pietila said.
