Fill the Boot!
As if it isn’t enough that firefighters help the community all year long, every year Cal Fire and the Redwoods Interagency Firefighter Academy join with the Muscular Dystrophy Association to raise money for people fighting muscle disease in our area.
Can you help by driving by and dropping some money in the boot?
Press release from Cal Fire:
CAL FIRE Humboldt – Del Norte Unit / College of the Redwoods Interagency Firefighter Academy and MDA Rally behind 60-Year Tradition,
WHAT: The Firefighters of the CAL FIRE Humboldt – Del Norte Unit, along with the College of the Redwoods Interagency Firefighter Academy and the Muscular Dystrophy Association, will host the annual Fill the Boot Campaign a special event that continues a 60-year tradition of helping save and improve the lives of people fighting muscle disease in Northern California. Firefighters will fan out across the intersection with boots in hand for this year’s Fill the Boot drive
WHERE: Intersection of West Harris St. and Central Ave.
WHEN: Saturday November 14th 2015
WHY: For more than six decades, fire fighters have fueled MDA’s mission to find treatments and cures for life-threatening muscle diseases. Muscular dystrophy and other related life-threatening diseases take away people’s ability to walk, move, smile, talk and even breathe.
Funds raised through the 2015 CAL FIRE Humboldt – Del Norte Unit’s Fill the Boot campaign support MDA’s life-enhancing programs such as state-of-the-art support groups and clinics, including the MDA Clinic at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. They also make MDA summer camp possible so kids with muscle disease can enjoy “the best week of the year” at Grizzly Creek Ranch in Portola, Ca.
