The 25th Annual Humboldt Hemp Fest happens at the Mateel, November 13th, 14th & 15th!
On the weekend of November 13-15 the Mateel Community Center in Redway will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Humboldt Hemp Fest! That’s right, Humboldt County’s original celebration of the cannabis plant in all its glory, turns 25 this year! To honor this historic milestone, the Mateel will host 3 days of irie celebration!
Starting on Friday, November 13th at 8pm with the Hemp Fest Comedy Cabaret Kick-Off, comedians Ngaio Bealum, Ed Greer, Klee Wiggins and Jason Robo will be bringing in laughs by the bushel. Ngaio Bealum, who’s invited back to Hemp Fest every year with his High-larious strain of comedy will host and perform. Sometimes known as the Chocolate Mountain of Joy, this former editor of West Coast Cannabis Magazine has appeared at just about every cannabis themed festival and event on the West Coast and has opened for such comedic luminaries as Weird Al, Dave Chappele, Outkast, Cee-lo Green, and The Black Eyed Peas, to name a few.
Also appearing, will be sought-after L.A. comedian, Ed Greer who’s been described as “fearlessly dynamic, highly original, thought-provoking and completely hilarious.”
San Francisco native, writer/comedian, Klee Wiggens, brings her rare breed of comedy to Hemp Fest. Wiggins has been described as “nerd girl sexy time” and “where humor, raunch and intellect converge.”
Local talent, Jason Robo, known for his “edgy social-political insights making a laughing matter of grim realities” will open the HempFest Comedy Kick off on Friday night, definitely a not-to-be-missed show for those who love to laugh!
The fun continues into the main event day, Saturday, the 14th, with music all day and into the night plus an array of vendors, dance troupes, speakers, info booths, great food and beer and wine. During the day we’ll be treated to some of our favorite local bands including the Non Prophets and Back to the Hill. Later on there will be a veritable feast of great sounds including Underscore Orkestra who will perform a blend of Balkan, Klezmer, Gypsy Jazz and Swing music, both original and traditional, evoking the old world and the new. They’ll be followed by Dread Daze who will take the stage with their high energy Reggae, Rock and Worldbeat sounds. Then Tony Strat and the Funk Mob, featuring two Parliament/Funkadelic Alumni, famed drummer Muruga Booker, and guitarist, Tony “Strat”Thomas, will perform a fusion of Funk, Rock, World, and Country music. Headliner Angelo Moore who blew away Reggae on the River attendees with his funk band The Brand New Step will top off the evening.
Sunday, November 15th from 2pm to 5pm, the hall will be set up for the Hemp Fest Forum, where expert speakers join us to discuss: “California’s Regulated Cannabis Marketplace- What Recent State Legislation Means For You” an important discussion with pertinent information on the changes that will affect cannabis growing, selling and consuming. Sunday admission is free.
