Handcuffed Suspect Being Sought by Deputies

This is a press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

SpringsOn 11-05-2015 at about 9:13 a.m. Humboldt County Sheriff Deputies were investigating several recent burglaries from the Trinidad Water Treatment Plant in Trinidad. The deputies went to a residence located in the 500 block of Old Wagon Wheel, Trinidad. The deputies contacted the suspect 20 year old, Michael Otis Springs. The deputies arrested Springs for Burglary and placed his hands in handcuffs behind his back.

As one of the deputies were walking Springs to the patrol vehicle he was able to break free from there [their] control and run off into the woods. Deputies pursed Springs on foot, but lost sight of him. A K-9 responded to the scene from the Eureka Police Department to attempt to locate Springs. After an extensive search by law enforcement they were unable to locate Springs.

The Sheriff Office issued a Be on the Lookout (BOL) to other law enforcement agencies to arrest Springs for Burglary and escape from a peace officer. Springs is described as a white, male, 5’-10” in height, 145 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information for the Sheriff’s Office regarding this case or related criminal activity is encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Office at 707-445-7251 or the Sheriff’s Office Crime Tip line at 707-268-2539.

Why is it legal to publicly post mug shots like on that site you used? Are we now assuming that being arrested makes you fair game forever? I know images are easily gotten now from social media sites, but at least those were voluntarily posted for the public by the person in question.

I vividly remember a boyfriend being arrested while protecting me from a dangerous rapist-type who had assaulted me. Both of us were insisting to the cops that he wasn’t the one we called about. THAT one was walking right past the arrest, laughing his head off, and my boyfriend had to spend HOURS in jail while the maniac got away.

I’d hate to think of him online for the rest of his life for a sexual assault and resisting arrest booking, when HE was the one who called the cops and his “resisting” consisted of insisting to them that he was not the perp.

AND I spent many years of my life defending cops who’d gotten themselves into dumb scrapes. So I know they arrest and book the wrong people all the time. These mug shot sites are creepin’ me out.

Am I just too old or what?

i would think they released(law enforcement) his photo with the “be on the lookout” as so we the people know who to keep an eye out for, it doesnt say hes guilty, just that they might want the handcuffs back…

No. Right. But I’m talking about the mug shot archive sites Kym uses to get pictures of the suspects, not whether he’s guilty or not. Gotta prove that in court… and I have a feeling those cuffs, if they ever find them, won’t be fit for duty anymore.

Clearly stated at the top of the post
“This is a press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:”
This is a BOL. He is guilty of running while in handcuffs. That much we do know. Unless that is his karate uniform, it looks like this isn’t his first rodeo. I guess they could have used a Facebook photo or something of that nature. Would that make you feel better?

Clearly stated at the bottom of the post was Kym’s link to where the picture was from.

Whatever rights you may think he has over an earlier mug shot(*hint*..no citizen of the year..in his resume) doesn’t take precedence over the safety or rights of everyone else in the county.! Try not to read between the lines when there is nothing to read ! Why try rewarding the bad guys and punish the ones trying to do good all the time ? I don’t get trying to make issues out of non-issues !

He got in a fist fight last year, and so he’s a “bad guy”? Before it was a kid who bled to death sixty feet away from the house of a guy who SAID the dead kid had invaded his home with a gun. THAT mugshot was from when he’d been arrested in Florida for not giving the right personal information to the cops over a decade ago. I’m sure that helped make him look like a bad guy, and since there was nothing else to go on… shrug… might as well drop it… too bad you might’ve been murdered, kid… better luck next life.

And CERTAINLY my point is that we ARE all innocent until proven guilty, and praise Kym for making that a standard reminder to us all, but I’m creeped out about the websites out there collecting mug shots from every arrest in the country, so if you have the name and age, a picture and a list of SUPPOSED crimes comes up.

He was in custody and ran with cuffs so we can move forward and not worry about being presumed innocent for running from the cops…that one is a wrap

Convicted of nothing….

Maybe the cops just let him go after stealing his weed and money?

No scraggle beard, but he could be Isis.

Outlawing Toyota trucks is a step in fixing things.

Make 707/tree stickers a felony would help too.

Yes. You are the very last last pedant on the internet. Give it up. I did and am so much happier for it in 140 characters or fewer. I mean less.

They’re = contraction “they are”
Their + possessive something or other
There = location, location, LOCATION
