CHP

On 10/26/2015 at approximately 1925 hours, a marked CHP unit was on patrol traveling northbound on US 101 near Barkdull Road; the unit observed a Lincoln LS traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on US 101.  As the unit attempted to make an enforcement stop for the observed speed violation, the Lincoln rapidly began to accelerate in an apparent attempt to evade the marked unit.  The marked unit then activated its code 3 emergency lights and siren and the Lincoln continued at a high rate of speed traveling southbound on US 101.  Additional marked CHP units, including a CHP sergeant, State Parks units, Humboldt County Sheriff units and Mendocino county Sheriff units responded to the area to assist the CHP.  The Lincoln attempted to evade the CHP officer for approximately 65 miles until another CHP officer was successful at deploying a spike strip, disabling the front tires of the Lincoln.  The Lincoln yielded to the right shoulder of US 101 south of State Route 1.   The driver, a 17 year-old female juvenile from Eureka, was subsequently taken into custody and booked at Humboldt Juvenile Hall on suspected reckless evasion and drug possession charges.  The right rear passenger, an 18 year old female from Eureka, was subsequently taken into custody and booked at the Humboldt County Jail on a felony warrant and probation violation.  The left rear passenger, an 18 year old male from Eureka, was subsequently cited and released for possession of one ounce or less of marijuana.
