Early Morning Structure Fire in McKinleyville

This is a press release from the Arcata Fire District:

arcata fire(McKinleyville, CA) – October 21, 2015 – At approximately 4:30 AM, Arcata Fire District responded to a structure fire located on the 2600 block of Bolier Avenue in McKinleyville.

The first arriving engine reported a single family structure with 90 percent fire involvement. The two person crew quickly established a water supply to the nearest fire hydrant and applied water from the engine’s deck gun to knock down the fire. Once the fire was under control the crews from the other two Arcata Fire District engines on scene were able to conduct an interior attack and extinguish the fire. Assistant Chief Justin McDonald stated, “The first arriving engine crew did a great job at placing the engine and establishing a water supply so quickly.”

After the fire was extinguished, it was determined the house was vacant and under construction. There was no power or water to the structure and there was no furniture inside. The fire is believed to be human caused but whether it is accidental or intentional is still under investigation.

Arcata Fire District responded with three engines and a chief officer. Humboldt Bay Fire responded with one engine and a chief officer to provide coverage
