Revenge is a meal best served cold. $100,000 bail seems a bit steep for the circumstances.

Right… because assholes shooting guns in front of preschools when their life isn’t endangered is a perfectly reasonable thing by civilized standards?!

“Parking lot of a pre-school” could count as aggravating circumstances. If he had shot the dogs on his own property with a safe backdrop, he’d be eligible for a community-service award.

What a piece of shit! This guy should go to prison. Paranoid, insecure, gun-clutching white men with chips on their shoulders are the scariest thing I can think of…

I don’t think I see the problem. You can shoot dogs that kill your livestock, can’t you? No kids around, no damage to school property.

Probably not, altho this was a parking lot he entered. But if you go on other people’s property it is a trespass, not a $100,000 bail case. You don’t get arrested, you get told to leave their property.

Only if you are a cop. And afraid (of life). You don’t want to be bit by a mean old dog running away. Try a Milk Bone.

The fact that the gun was fired on school grounds plays into this.

Poor judgement I suspect on the part of the shooter. Article does not say how close to the pre-school the shooter was standing. Nor the pellet size of the ammunition. And I agree 100K is a large bail. There must be more to this story. Maybe he is a felon in possession.

Not necessarily pellets. Shotguns can carry different loads.
For example, single .00 buck is one solid ball. Not accurate at any distance, but capable of removing any part it hits at “close” range. A well-tuned 4.10 (shotgun) with a .00 load can take the head off a turkey at 15 yards. Painless for the bird, and no cracked teeth around the Thanksgiving table.
When I was a girl (North Dakota) the NRA held gun-safety classes as an after-school program and it offered a good education in the subject. The emphasis was on Knowledge and Safety, as in the Safety which comes from Knowledge. Only after we passed (100% – very difficult) tests of knowledge were we allowed to advance to Proficiency and the Merit Badges.
I know that today the NRA is totally out-of-hand with its political power, so “hold your fire” on that; still, back then, the NRA taught us to use these tools safely and with respect. Classes began in Grade Four. Girls were equally encouraged to participate, and did.
I’ve often thought this program would be excellent in today’s public education, but with current oh-NO thinking, gun safety is basically relegated to on-the-job-training. Eeeek!
One way to get a modicum of knowledge is through the current Sheriffs’ programs for Concealed Weapons’ Permits. Sixteen hours of class and practice, good qualifying test. (And background checks.) Sure beats being freaked out at the mere thought… af

When I was a kid, the NRA was a gun advocacy and safety organization. My Boy Scout troop happily went through the gun safety courses. First 1911 .45 auto I ever shot belonged to the Protestant minister, and I was Catholic. That’s ecumenical. Talk to me about Vatican II. American gun culture at its best.

No charge for trespassing or cruelty to animals?

I suspect the charges were discharge of a firearm within city limits and trespassing. He should have waited for the dogs to come back on to his property and then take photos and go to animal control. The dogs’ owner is liable for damage to livestock.

Interestingly enough, the same gentleman was visited this morning by yet another dog who killed yet another chicken. He called the Sheriff, who contacted Animal Control. It only took them three hours and forty-five minutes to return his call. So much for following the letter of the law. Nice collection of IQ’s here.
