[UPDATE 11:45 a.m. ‘Suspicious Device’ Contained No Explosive Materials] Bomb Threat at Cal Fire Station Closes Alderpoint Road

A bomb threat to the Cal Fire Station located near Garberville has closed Alderpoint Road from Redwood Drive to 100 yards east of the Cal Fire Station.

Please stay out of the area and even avoiding Redwood Drive would be a good idea for now.

We’ll be following this story closely and updating with new information as soon as possible.

UPDATE 6:50 a.m.: According to Denton Carrick of Humboldt County Public Works, a Southern Humboldt resident has been taken to Sempervirens Psychiatric Health Facility after telling emergency services that an explosive device had been placed “underneath the Smokey Bear” near the Cal Fire station near Garberville.

At a little after 1 a.m the resident, a volunteer firefighter, can be heard on his fire department issued radio speaking on the scanner to dispatch about “a device of some kind located in my wife’s car.”

Currently, Carrick said, “His car is parked with some sort of flashing light near the [Cal Fire] station.”

UPDATE 8:12 a.m.:

KMUD News graciously shared the following photo with us showing Alderpoint Road closure:12141775_760533037409537_6417690063337366646_n
UPDATE 8:23 a.m.: A spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol says that there is no estimated time of opening for Alderpoint Road.

UPDATE 9:10 a.m.: Below is a photo provided by a reader of the vehicle associated with the bomb threat parked in front of the Cal Fire Station. The image was taken around 8 a.m.
v1

UPDATE 9:35 a.m.: A CHP spokesperson tells me that residents should not be alarmed if they hear a loud noise. They (she couldn’t say who they were at this time) would “detonate a package.” She said this could happen soon.

UPDATE 9:38 a.m.: Neighbors are reporting an explosion.

UPDATE 9:50 a.m.: Traffic is now flowing freely down Alderpoint Road. “We just opened it up,” Denton Carrick of Humboldt County Public Works says.

UPDATE 10:05 a.m.: According to a California Highway Patrol spokesperson, a “suspicious device” is being investigated in the Crescent City area. There is not necessarily a connection with the situation on Alderpoint Road.

UPDATE 10:27 a.m.: According to a spokesperson for the Del Norte Sheriff’s Office, at about 8 a.m. a suspicious item was found at the Crescent City Cal Fire Station. The item, a dufflebag, needed to be checked out by a Explosive Ordinance  Disposal unit (EOD.) Because of the situation on Alderpoint Road, no one was immediately available to investigate. At about 10 a.m. the EOD team was headed to Del Norte County. Drive time is about three hours.

UPDATE 11:08 a.m.: Kenny Swithenbank of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office tells us that the Alderpoint Road Cal Fire station device was detonated without any indication of there being any sign of explosive materials inside it.  We are following another story about a suspicious duffle bag found in the Crescent City Cal Fire Office. Click here to read it.

UPDATE 11:45 a.m.: Cal Fire spokesperson Laura Coleman released the following statement, “Garberville CAL FIRE personnel sheltered in place at a safe location while HCSO, CAL FIRE Prevention Officers and CHP mitigated the threat.  No injuries!”

Redneck ingenuity at its finest! Yeah, threaten to blow up the people that helped save this state from being burnt to a crisp! Good one!

Most likely a threat made by a member of CDF or nearby agency. Friction between not getting what they want. And the fine line between being a fireman & arsonist. Sad to say, yet accurate by local history.

True, firefighters often light fires seeking the glory to fill empty voids in their lives.

Wanna be Cylons have issues…

Well, CDF was rebranded into Cal Fire, so I doubt they’re the ones responsible.

Well, I supposed driving the back way to Eureka is still slightly better than getting blown to smithereens on the bottom of AP Road….

They don’t need to close the road. If I want to risk my neck for a false bomb threat that is my business.

The people need room to work. If you and whoever wanted to “Risk your neck” it would interfere with the operation. I don’t think you fully understand how things like this work. It takes up a lot of space due to the potential hazard. There is an exclusion area just in case something happens. Claiming anything is false when you really don’t know and have limited information is very ignorant. Do you play Russian rulette often?

You know, it’s been seeming to me as though there were a real effort to harass the life out of us, drive us mad, remove our serene little country attitudes, make us long for jobs on, say, ocean liners or retirements in Iceland… or send me screaming naked off a cliff.

Between the feds taking the “fire is natural” approach to so many conflagrations and all the cars vs pedestrians and cars vs the laws of physics and murders and suicides and just plain death and ecocidal maniacs from Transylvania and large donations to the sheriffs and break-ins and arrests of lost souls and OR’d heroin distributors and convoys of plants-slashing real estate moguls and hot doggers laying sonic booms all over Eureka… well… maybe I’m just paying more attention lately or maybe I’m in a coma somewhere having a really bad dream.

If you take away guns someone will make a bomb. If you remove the supplies required to make a bomb from stores they will drive their vehicle through a building. If a person wants to do harm they will find a way… So why not try to correct the root of the problem? Why not develop more/better/cheaper or free mental health and rehab facilities. Why not try to address the aspects of society that are producing these twisted, tortured human beings? There are several reasons why people get to the point where they feel the desire to create mass murders. Instead of trying to take away the weapons, which will only effect law abiding citizens (illegal weapons will always have a market more so if you can not get them legally), why not try to address the reasons why more and more people are choosing to mass murder? Sure, add an interview with a certified professional to get your gun license. It can’t hurt to have one more way to try to ensure the person who is legally purchasing a gun is doing so with good intentions.
We all want to feel safe but we are fighting each other with our ideas of how to be. There are reasons why more and more people are trying to commit mass murders. There are solutions to addressing the root problem. They start at the top and are not easy changes, but should be discussed.
While we try to correct this twisted world we are creating I’d like to keep my gun to have half a chance of protecting my family. #not raising victims!!!

You should read the side effect warning pamphlet assosated with the antidepressan pills that all most all of the people that have perpetrated these “mass shooting” have been on. Some of the most common side effects are psycoses and homisidal tendency’s.

Up to this point, kind of reminds me of a Monty Python or Neil Simon type comedy / spoof / mystery.

Act 1 — the inevitable foreshadowing — all those mysterious but apparently untraceable “Ba Booms.”

Act 2 — the plot thickens — “suspicious devices” are found at several locations and there’s a bomb threat at a local hardware store.

Battlestar Galatia tells the story of man, watch the updated version, then watch some bacon fly in the sky, and tell me that the Cylons aren’t here.

Honestly, how could a human work in government? They can’t, so its gotta be machines behind the curtain.

Skynet is real also.

“device had been placed “underneath the Smokey Bear” near the Cal Fire station near Garberville.”

Isn’t Smokey Bear US Forest Service? hmmmm….only seen the USFS and CalFire that close together (locally), is at the Emergency Command Center in Fortuna. Besides, I don’t think they (USFS) would share their mascot with a state agency.

Smokey the Bear is widely used by the California Dept. of Forestry and Fire Protection (CALFIRE). A lot of CALFIRE stations even have a “Smokey suit” that their firefighters can wear for PR events, etc. Believe it or not, CALFIRE and the USFS often work together towards a common goal.

Maybe smokey did it to cause a rift between the two agencies. I wouldn’t rule it out. Could be Chem Trails too.
