The Redway Structure Blaze: Images of Despair and Victory
Kim Sallaway, a local photographer, captured images from this afternoon’s structure fire in Redway that ran the gamut from the despair of the resident who has lost everything but her dog to the thumbs up from the victorious firefighter who kept the blaze from spreading to the neighbors.
Thanks, Kim (see more of his photos here,) thank you to neighbors who fought the blaze with hoses until the engines arrived and thank you, firefighters.

Kim Sallaway can tell a story with his photos better than most people can tell with words. Thanks Kim, and thanks Kym.
Ernie’s right. Kim does it again with a wonderful story not needing words.
Great photos and a very sad situation…
Thank you to all the neighbors, firefighters and everyone who helped keep my place from catching fire!
[…] for this family and for the woman who lost her home in Redway can be made to Pay It Forward Southern Humboldt. (Thanks to the firefighters who stop the fires […]
So sad for this woman. Our FB group, PiF So Hum will take donations of clothes, food etc for her and I suggest she goes to WISH for now. But her dog would need a home.
That’s messed up, September is turning out to be a really sucky month this year and August wasn’t very good either. The good news is I wasn’t the one who had to put on a bunch of bulky protective gear on a 100 degree day and go stand next to a fire, good job on not letting it spread. At least her and her dog are safe and hopefully the Community will kick in to help her out, I have no doubts they will.
What an amazing story in photos! Absolutely beautiful work!
Will there be a way to donate to help the woman who lost her home? Please keep us updated, Kym. Thanks!
Yes, Amber Wallan will take monetary donations at the Redwoods Rural Health Center for both this woman and for the mother and her three children who lost their home in Alderpoint today.
Nice composition on number four.
Some real Renaissance era painting flashback for me. Sorry for her loss.
Kim took my picture when I needed to create an ID back when I was studying law in the 20th Century. He was then, as he is now, an extraordinary photographer. These are marvelous photographs.
