Structure Caught Fire in Garberville Early This Morning

At approximately 3:16 this morning, Cal Fire, as well as Garberville and Redway Fire Departments responded to a structure fire near the Garberville Hospital. According to KMUD News, the incident, located near the intersection of Locust and Conger Streets, was contained and kept from spreading to nearby structures by firefighters.

According to Garberville Fire Chief Alfred Williams, the two residents smelled smoke and called 911. When the first Cal Fire and Garberville engines arrived on scene, flames were visible. The two crews immediately engaged. Redway Fire and then second Cal Fire engine arrived to fight the blaze.

Williams said, crews managed to keep the flames from spreading to “any neighboring houses, or the garage or the two story apartment that was on the south side of it.” Nearby residents self-evacuated but were able to return home soon because of the quick action of the firefighters.

No one injured and the fire is under investigation.
