[UPDATE 2:30 Sheriff’s Office Describes Tactics] Marijuana Eradication in Salmon Creek Today

Law enforcement is in Salmon Creek today. A large convoy headed up Salmon Creek around 8 a.m. Now a helicopter and crews are working west of Miranda and northwest of the Hideaway Hill area. This is a very rough map of the area below.

UPDATE 2:130 p.m: We’ve had numerous reports of law enforcement also being on Bear Buttes and the Wood Ranch. When reached for comment, Lt. Wayne Hanson says he isn’t sure exactly where his deputies are today because they are conducting open field searches.

“Today, we staged down on the river bar,” he explained. The helicopter that is with his deputies and CAMP (Campaign Against Marijuana Planting) is able to work in a five mile radius of the staging area.

“Draw a five mile circle around Miranda, that’s where they could be,” he said.

The crew are removing any plants that are budding by hauling them out. Non-flowering marijuana plants are cut and left on the ground. This allows deputies to “remove a larger amount of marijuana in a short time,”  Hanson explained. “Everyone wants the bud,” he said, so there is no reason to remove the non-flowering plants.

The deputies need to move quickly, he said, to destroy as many plants as possible. ‘It saves time…and sometimes it is precious when you only have five or six hours of blade time [helicopter availability.]”

At this point in the day, there have been no arrests and no search warrants served.

Yes indeed. Busiest year ever would be my guess. We’ll find out when the stats are released at the end of the season.

Any one else getting the pile of feces in the middle of a garden should post in to see how widespread this habit is.
You know if they leave a pile of chipped buds could it be dried and run thru an oil process?

What’s the red outline on the map suggest? Is that the 5 mile radius you spoke of?

Flew low and fast and scared all our animals. Ran our horse across the pasture when flying tree top level by the pasture we had our horse grazing. I’ve already had one horse killed by a helicopter during the Canoe Fire. Don’t kill my horse! There is no reason why you have to harass and run livestock by flying fast loud and at tree level past grazing animals. Harassment pure and simple! Dangerous harassment at that!

I would get a picture and the numbers off the side of the helicopter/airplane and call it in “pissed” Call their boss and complain! That is not acceptable!!!

Report it to the FFA if you can get a tail number or description. Last time I called in, they couldn’t figure out if the copter was working for CAMP or PG&E on that particular day but took the report seriously and sent me a copy of my complaint.

I would really love to spot the lowest flying aircraft with one of the modern range finder scopes or binoculars to see if a distance reading could be done. It would be interesting to see if the old 500′ or more height agreed to in the old consent decree is being followed. Is it illegal to use a range finder on aircraft? If it uses a visible laser it might be.
