[UPDATE 7:33 p.m.]New Fire Burning Near Weaverville, Evacuations Ordered

A new fire (now known as the Democrat Incident) is burning near Weaverville. The fire was reported around 2:30 p.m. west of the town.

According to the Record Searchlight, the blaze is already over 20 acres and spotting out much further.

The Trinity County Sheriff’s Office has issued mandatory evacuation orders for the west side of Oregon Mountain down to Highway 299. They also say, “There is a hard road closure on Oregon Street at Democrat Gulch to the top of Oregon Mountain…More notices will be released as it is being assessed.”

UPDATE 4:07 p.m.: According to the expert contributors at Wildland Fire as of 3:55 p.m., the incident commander reported “50 to 60 acres in [timber] with spots.”

UPDATE 4:39 p.m.: The Trinity County Sheriff’s Office now states, “Steiner Flat Road in Douglas City is under voluntary evacuation.”

UPDATE 5:43 p.m.: 

UPDATE 5:47 p.m.: Caltrans has a traffic cam and a weather station near the fire. The temperature was 91.4 at 5:33 p.m. with wind gusts up to 12 mph. (Thanks again for the folks commenting at Wildland Fire.)

UPDATE 6:24 p.m.: At approximately 6:15 p.m. the fire was at 180 acres, according to a fire information spokesperson at 530 225 2510.

UPDATE 6:53 p.m.: Calfire added an incident page for the Democrat Fire. They write, “Firefighters are aggressively battling a fire in the area of Democrat Gulch. An increase in winds continues to cause the fire to spot ahead of itself, further challenging firefighters. The fire is burning in timber, along Oregon Mountain. Communication towers on Oregon Mountain are threatened.”

UPDATE 7:25 p.m.:

UPDATE 7:32 p.m: According to a Cal Fire spokesperson, the wind is basically blowing the fire on itself which is a good thing. But now it is 250 acres.

UPDATE 8:42 p.m.: The phone number for the evacuation center is 844-236-0153.

Wholly crap,that looks bad.poor people the last fire there was super close to town.be careful everyone please be safe.

Your 7:25 pm update just loaded for me. If you’d like to embed CalFIRE’s map, you can do that by: (1) Visiting CalFIRE’s statewide fire map, (2) under the map, click “View California Fire Map in a larger map”, (3) on the left-hand drop-down menu, select the three-pronged social media icon and click “Embed on my site”, and (4) copy and paste the code to your site. You will have the benefit of it being updated as they periodically update it.

Cal Fire Incident Report as of 6:45 A.M. (8-26) shows 250 acres burned — containment 35 percent.

Thanks for the report Please keep up the updates on the fire. We own a house in Weaverville near the hospital and there is little reporting here on the coast.
