[Update 1:50 p.m.] Hwy 299 Is Not Slated to Close Today

UPDATE: 1:40 p.m.: Betsy Totten from Caltrans District 1 has confirmed that Hwy 299 is not currently slated to close today.

We’ll be calling the Forest Service and getting an update on the area soon.

UPDATE 1:50 p.m.: According to a spokesperson for the US Forest Service, there were concerns that the highway might have to close. “There was one spot fire yesterday,” the spokesperson explained. “The crews got that contained. They worked on it throughout the night.”

A new fire management team has taken over the incident and the spokesperson said, “We’ve just transitioned from one incident management team to another. They are still out there taking a look at it…. We’re going to do everything we can to avoid closing the highway because that’s a pretty big impact. But at this point… we are not looking to close the highway.”

Caltrans will be closing Hwy 299 later today due to an upswing in fire activity on the River Complex. Check the map here for the most current information check the Quickmap.  Fire crews will be attempting to hold the Ridgetop Road east of Ironside Lookout Road to minimize impacts to Highway 299. Check out our map of the River Complex here for more information.

Here’s a screengrab of the map below.

With a change in leadership to California Interagency Incident Management Team 4, our intention is not to bring the fire to Hwy 299 and therefore we are not anticipating the road to close. However, if fire behavior changes that may impact the Hwy we will coordinate any closures with Cal Trans.
Thank you.

They need to shut the road down for a week or so, in hopes of funding Calpers, and in support of the fire fee.

People should just make their own roads and not use abusive language towards government workers.

Thank you.
