[…] UPDATE 6:15 p.m.: National Geographic loves the firefighters fighting our wildfires. We love the firefighters and the gritty photos featured in the article. Click here to see more. […]
Great pictures!
Did anyone notice they have squintey, blood shot eyes and are growing scraggle beards, plus munching out on pizza. Is that from all the burning weed in The Pines or have I missed something?
You’ve missed something.
Phenomenal photos!
Yeah, you’ve definitely missed something. Like reality. Do you have any idea how hard and dangerous that work is? I guess there is a spill-over of trolls from LoCO. No shame whatsoever.
did you notice they don’t necessarily have the time or means to shower? i live in the valley an hour away from this mess and even we have red swollen eyes on days when the smoke is heavy, imagine working in it and try not to jump to conclusions so easily…..
Wow what a comment. You just don’t get it. These men and women work 16 to 20 hour days for weeks on end. Beautiful photos. Thank you firefighters!
Love the photos.thank you
Be sure to follow the two links at the bottom of the story to see additional great photos and a bio of the photographer. One is called “Proof” and the other is called “A photographer inside the wildfires”
Nice photos I hope no one dies because of the miss management of OUR forests …no one should have to breath the air in Hayfork right now.
GORGEOUS!
Great photos, but I’m let down that they report only 117,000 acres burned in California. That acreage total is off by so much, I can’t believe no one caught it before publication.
Want great pictures. Firefighters have one of the hardest job in the world. And yes lazy skunk ranch you miss the whole thing. Want a sad comment to make. There are bigger problems for hayfork then your comment.
I grew up here in the north state, it’s my home. These men and many others are true heroes in our eyes. Thank you to all of them.
Oh my, after reading the comments above it should be noted these firemen work in 24 hours shifts, everything they need to get through their shift they carry on their back. I am very thankful for what they have done for us here in the Fork Complex fires.
What would you look like after a 24 hour shift?
The crews are such young men, making a difference. They are brave and work to exhaustion. They work tirelessly. Look at those faces. They are the faces of miracles.

Thank you so much FIRE FIGHTERS from all over the USA that have come to save our communities here in Trinity County…..you are so very much appreciated….
The men and women that do this work are heroes every day. They dedicate themselves to the greater good, putting their own lives at risk to answer the call of people in need. They fight the fire with extraordinary skill, grit, bravery and determination. They are mighty. They are heroes. And I love them all.
If you see a firefighter, thank them. They deserve our support.
Yes Lazy Skunk Ranch you definitely missed something[edit]. These guys and girls are risking their lives to save our beautiful hometowns. They eat what they can ,when they can. Their eyes are red and puffy from so much smoke. [edit]
I am a volunteer firefighter. I Have been on fires in Hayfork. The terrain is steep and tough, the trees are old and unpredictable, we do spend countless hours patrolling, putting out fire, making sure locals get to safe places. We drink warm water and eat out of paper bags. We do work 24 hour shifts if not more, we sleep on the ground, and if we are lucky enough to get a treat once in a while it’s a good day. So any of you who have never been on the fire line think twice before you think shaving should be a priority or having a slice of pizza is to good for firefighters who risk their lives to save yours. And by the way I am a female firefighter. I am lucky enough to be a part of the brother hood. Be safe brothers and sisters.
