YOUR FIRE MAPS 8/18/15

Here are today’s fire maps. Check out how the fires have changed for better or worse by comparing the images over time. Click the thumbnails at the bottom of this post for the PDF maps, and click the links below the thumbnails to go to the incident pages for each of the listed fires.

The Google Earth download does not include the Rocky Fire or the Jerusalem Fire.

Online fire and wind map – Fire weather forecast

I replaced some of the overlay layers that the Google fire and wind map can display. One of the new layers is the “Fire weather forecast.” If you turn on this layer then the map will display regions. If you then click the map you will see as popup that includes a link. Click the link to see the fire weather forecast for the region you clicked.

Also new are some other weather-related layers that work the same way: Put the layer on ‘top’, click the layer, follow the link in the popup.

If you do not know how to work with the overlay layers, then please click “About this map” in the upper left corner. I also updated this “About” page with information and links about the MODIS satellite data. The MODIS data displays circles and dots on the map representing heat sources.

The MODIS layer that is ‘on’ when the map opens has the best attribute data. But you have to put that layer on ‘top’ before you click any of the red dots. If you do not know what ‘top’ means, please read the “About” page.

Below is a new map link that shows the Google street map when it opens. The earlier map links that show the Google aerial when the map opens will continue to work. However the new overlay layers are only available by using this new map link.
