[UPDATE 3:20 p.m.] Two Stabbing Victims, One Person with Head Wound near Sutter and Kellner in McKinleyville

Scanner traffic indicates emergency personnel are responding to report of two people who have been stabbed in McKinleyville. The victims were located at Sutter Road and Kellner Avenue. Initially, it was unclear if it was a false report, but it has been confirmed that the two people were stabbed. Additionally, it was just reported that there is another person with a head wound. Medical Personnel are on the way to the scene.

Update 12:35 p.m.: According to the scanner, the person with the head injury is “an assault victim,” and the person is waiting at Park Road.

“Both incidents are tied together,” said a voice over the scanner.

Update 12:37 p.m.: One victim has a laceration to the abdomen.

Update 12:40 p.m.: A suspect was detained a few minutes ago, but it’s unclear if it was for this incident.

Update 1:06 p.m.: Another person, reportedly, has lacerations but is denying any involvement in the incident.

balkeUPDATE 1:53 p.m.: According to Lt. Wayne Hanson of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, one suspect, Jason Balke, age 34, is in the hospital getting stitches sustained when the victims were defending themselves. Balke allegedly attacked the victims with a box cutter.

This is a press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

On 08-17-2015 at about 12:30 p.m. the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a stabbing that just occurred at a residence located in the 2000 block of Park Street, McKinleyville. When deputies arrived on scene they learned the following information from witnesses and victims.

Two male victims ages 33 and 43 where inside of the residence on Park Street when an acquaintance of theirs, named Jason Edward Balke age 35 knocked on the front door. A verbal argument occurred between the two male victims and the suspect, Jason Balke. The argument occurred , because Balke wanted to borrow cigarette. Sometime during the verbal argument Balke produced a box cutter and assaulted both of the male victims. It was reported to the deputies both of the victims fought back with Balke in self-defense after they were assaulted.

Both of the victims received non-life threating lacerations injuries from the box cutter and were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. Jason Balke was located at his residence at the corner of Park Street and “B” Street McKinleyville. Balke was taken into custody without incident. Balke was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment for injuries he received during the altercation from the victims.

After Balke was treated for his injuries he was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility for assault with a deadly weapon. Blake’s bail was set at $50,000 dollars.

I wonder if it’s that’s house on Sutter with trash and crap strewn all about the yard? Kids are seen playing among the debris as you drive by. So sad to see Tweakerville with no intervention.
