[UPDATE 9 a.m.] Breaking News: Inmate Firefighter Seriously Injured on Humboldt Complex
An inmate working on the Pine Fire incident in the Humboldt Complex was seriously injured when a tree fell on him. The man was medevacked to Mercy Hospital in Redding with “back, neck and abdominal injuries,” according to Cal Fire spokesperson Laura Coleman.
A firefighter recently died in the Tahoe area Saturday evening when a falling tree struck him. Another firefighter was injured in the same accident.
At this point we don’t know at which camp the inmate was stationed or with which unit he was working or even whether the accident happened last night or early this morning. We’ll be updating this situation as soon as more information is available.
UPDATE 9 a.m.: According to Terri Klemetson of KMUD News, the inmate was being readied for transport about 11 p.m. last night. She said that the Cal Fire morning meeting announced that he had been released from the hospital.
