[UPDATE 9:23 p.m.] Day 12: A Dozen Days After the Lightning Fires Began

On this the 12th day of the Lightning Fires, we continue to bring you the latest information as quickly as possible. As we update each incident throughout the day, we’ll note the time the facts were posted so you can quickly see if there is something new on these incidents. Look for most recent general updates on the bottom but new information for individual fires are posted in the summaries below in blue.  (Newest maps of the fires here.)

  • Fork Complex (Trinty Pines and north to Hayfork):(Current as of 2:30 p.m.) 22,312 acres burned and 19% contained. “Local Red Flag Warning starting today. A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for Tuesday.” (More info here)

  • Gasquet Fire: (Current as of 8 p.m.) 2335 acres burned and 9% containment. “Red Flag posted for the next 24 to 36 hours. Gusty winds and borderline RH could present problems with increased activity in inaccessible areas.” (More info here)
  • Humboldt Complex (Alderpoint and surroundings):(Current as of 7:15 p.m.) 4,665 acres burned and 50% contained. Structures Destroyed:  6 outbuildings. Firefighter injuries to date: 11 Total Personnel: 1,780. “Fire growth is not anticipated on the Blocksburg , Bluford, Dobbyn, Steelhead, Wildcat or Winchester Fires.” (More info here) (See 9:37 a.m. update below.)
  • (New fire) Jerusalem Fire (Lake County): (Current as of 6:45 p.m.) 6000 acres burned and 0% containment. “Erratic winds are contributing to the increased fire activity and promoting high intensity runs with short range spotting.” The Middletown High School evacuation center will remain open.”

  • Mad River Complex (Ruth Lake and Surroundings):(Current as of 8:57 p.m.) 19,189 acres burned and 38% contained. “Due to recent increase in fire activity in the area west of Forest Glen, fire management officials have called for a mandatory evacuation of the Forest Glen area for public and firefighter safety beginning at 8:00 am on Tuesday August 11th.” (More info

  • River Complex:(Current as of 8:20 p.m.) 18,235 burned and 12% contained. “A reg flag warning has been issued for Monday August 10 at 11 am until Tuesday August 11, 2015.” (More info here.) Telephone number for the public information officer 530-276-8559.
  • Rocky Fire (Lake County): (Current as of 6:45 p.m.) 69,636 acres burned and 85% contained, 43 residences, 53 outbuildings destroyed; 8 structures damaged.  “Firefighters are being released as containment grows, allowing them to be reassigned and available for other fires throughout the state.” (More info here)  Telephone number for the public information officer is (707) 967-4207.
  • Route Complex (south and west of Hyampom and Buck Mt. area):(Current as of 7:30 p.m.) 20,274 acres burned and 17% contained. “Fire weather watch is in effect for gusty SW winds (20-25 mph ridgetops)Tuesday afternoon.” (More info here.)   • South Complex (north and west of Hyampom):(Current as of 8:30 p.m.) 18,108 acres burned and 5% containment. “Due to dryer weather conditions a fire weather watch has been issued for Monday evening. Southwest winds up to 25mph are expected in areas above 3,500 feet in elevation, which include the Castle, Clark and Pattison fires.” (More info here)

UPDATE 8:06 p.m.: Lassic, a fire burning in eastern Humboldt and western Trinity threw up a dramatic column of smoke today. Firefighters are reporting it “blew up.” For more on this, click here.
