Video From the Front Line of the Pine Fire

Firefighters battling a blaze near Alderpoint and Blocksburg areas on Thursday night provided us with a closeup view of how dangerous their job is. The crew at the Miranda Volunteer Fire Department sent in this video of the Pine Fire in Southern Humboldt.

When asked if they were safe, the captain replied, “We’re OK.”

Even as the fire boiled near them, the crew laid down hose to protect the rural homesteads not far away. May they, in turn, be kept from harm.

Met a firefighter out for some exercise this morning. The air had less smoke than yesterday. We talked about the fires he’s been working on. I got to tell him thanks and how much it means to me that there are guys like him willing to be out there in absolutely terrifying conditions, trying to bend the will of a fire.
So, thanks to ALL firefighters!! They are HEROES to me.
