Lightning Striking in Siskiyou County

Lightning_animation_-_NOAAUS Weather Service meterologist Brian Garcia estimates that between 70 and 80 cloud to ground lightning strikes have occured “so far” between Happy Camp and Yreka. The storm cell began about 6:30 p.m. and is continuing as of 8:30 p.m.

Luckily, rain is coming down (possibly hail also,) so much so that there is a flash flood warning in the area. Even with all that moisture, the lightning could cause fires. “There is definitely moisture in the air,” Garcia said, “But lightning is lightning and the fuels are ridiculously dry this year.”
