Intermittent Pursuit Still Catches Thief, Says EPD

This is a press release from the Eureka Police Department. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

On 08/04/15 at about 1:19 p.m., the Eureka Police Department Communications Center was notified that Arcata Police Officers were in pursuit of a stolen yellow Nissan Xterra and were entering Eureka. Arcata Police discontinued the pursuit in Eureka due to heavy traffic.

Eureka Police Officers picked up the pursuit near 4th and G Streets but discontinued near Commercial Street for safety reasons. The pursuit was picked up again near 5th and R Streets and eventually ended near the 1900 block of Hill Street.

The driver, Jerrad Lafayette, 26 of Eureka, was taken into custody without further incident. He was transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility and booked for reckless evading, vehicle theft, and possession of a stolen vehicle.

It was determined that the Nissan Xterra had been stolen out of Eureka sometime last night and had stolen plates from a Nissan Xterra out of Arcata. The vehicle and plates were returned to their owners.
