Garberville Assault Victim on Life Support and Not Expected to Recover

This is a press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

On Saturday, July 18, 2015 at 12:48 p.m. a Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Deputy responded to Jerold Phelps Community Hospital in Garberville, regarding a possible male assault victim, who had arrived at the hospital by ambulance. Hospital staff told the deputy that the male victim, who had been identified as 37 year old Khanh Lam was unconscious with a severe head injury and was in critical condition. Lam was flown to an out of area hospital for treatment, because of his injuries.

Deputies and CHP Officers then responded to a possible location where Lam was injured, which was located in the 700 block of Locust Street, Garberville. Deputies spoke to witnesses who reported that Lam was involved in an argument with a female subject and attempted to remove her child from a car. At some point during the argument (4) four males subjects confronted Lam. According to the witnesses Lam took off running and the (4) male subjects, along with their dogs started to pursue Lam on foot. At some point during this incident it was reported by a witness that Lam possibly fell while he was running and received a head injury from falling to the ground. When witnesses found Lam lying on the ground unconscious they dialed 9-1-1.

On Sunday, July 19, 2015 at about 5:00 p.m. a medical doctor informed the Sheriff’s Office that Lam is currently on life support and has no brain activity. Lam’s family has been notified and is consulting with medical staff on their decision to take Lam off life support. Lam is from Atlanta, Georgia.

The Sheriff’s Office is considering this a suspicious death investigation and is asking for the public’s help if anyone witnessed this incident. They are encouraged to call the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office or Detective Jennifer Turner at 707-268-3642.

Anyone with information for the Sheriff’s Office regarding this case or related criminal activity is encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Office at 707-445-7251 or the Sheriff’s Office Crime Tip line at 707-268-2539.

Great! Now we’ve got murderers hanging out in the middle of town! Daily offenders and disrespectful of Town Square policies, but they think they can mete out justice to someone else. We need an UN-Welcome Wagon to deal with current transients and new arrivals, because these people Are. Not. Chill. The real pity is we’ll never know the victim’s story.

I have to agree, the sort of bums that flocked into our beloved town are the shadiest I have ever seen, year after year they flock in but how on earth do you expect to get ahead when you look like a complete junkie drug addict boozing half passed out dirty bum?
I’m impressed with some of the European kids that came through town last season, well mannered and a clean appearance, not ever planning to pick up a random but with the right attitude they are actually going to get work, unlike our domestic drunkard shady bunch that feels entitled to hold signs reading” if you can read this give me money” what a joke.
The sheriff needs to round them up [edit]and let them know to stay out!

Back in the day when men were men this type of problem in Garberville would be dealt with by a pickup truck bed full of men with Louisville Sluggers or #1 pick handles. It wouldn’t take long to clean up the problem. Remember, law enforcement carry firearms to protect themselves, not you.

From what I’ve heard this was a Bum on Bum crime. Thanks to all the transients that loiter around town and the square high and drunk all day and night.
This town has gone to the bums.
So sad.

I can assure you that the victim was no “bum”. Although I had never met him, turns out he “was” my new neighbor. They do quite well for themselves. What a sad tragedy and pathetic bunch of shit sheriff’s investigation allowing such a bull shit story to go by. Fucking cops should actually do their job.

Your compassionate comment puts the focus of this horrible incident precisely where it should be; on the child. To have witnessed this will surely leave scars.

Well, whatever we find out it will be expensive. Four lawyers for four offenders, and four prosecutors as well. Sounds like millions and millions. Be careful what you ask for…

Crime is expensive, but so is justice. That’s why the blind lady is holding up the scale. Is prosecution really worth it?

When it comes to violent crime absolutely worth prosecution.

Who was in charge when the decision to build the town square came down ? What Garberville needs is more parking, the people in charge at that time were not thinking clearly, probably the liberals, The people in charge should be made to tear it down and put the parking lot back in. using their own money, somebody please post the name of the nuts that are responsible for this big mistake. I am thinking Earth First is responsible.
