No doubt!! The more prepared we are the better chances we have. Make sure you have fire hose fitting on your water system; watching your house burn next to your full water tanks would suck! Have a go bag ready- pretty obvious what goes in it. Make sure everyone in home/on homestead knows who to call&what to do if they see a fire. Most of all dont assume it wont happen & dont assume anyone will be able to help you in a timely manner. Resources may get extremely low, fire may move very fast. Organize with your neighbors & be as self reliant as possible.

Great photos. I was on the phone with my Dad who’s lived in Covelo since 1966 or so and he was describing the fire to me and I could hear the planes flying over his head while on the phone. He lives very close to where the fire was burning downtown so I’m very happy the fire(s) were contained and my thoughts go out to those who lost their homes. Does anyone know who lost their home?

Two families lost their homes and everything in them, one of the families has a young child. Accounts have been set up at Tri Counties Bank for anyone wishing to donate. Lindon & Aileen Duke’s account # is 245014065. Andy & Pauline Hill’s account # is 245014089

Back in last century most of Covelo burned down once or twice? I happened to be in town when the fire started burning into south west side. I seen three small spot fires smoldering near school by post office. Jumped out and stomped them out wearing shorts, hush puppies and T-top. Scorched all the hair off legs. Then one of two Calfire choppers came by dropping load of water over school and post office roofs. Seen lots of people putting out spot fires and helping move animals. Was like a war zone with choppers and 3-4 fire bombers making passes at tree top level. My condolences to people who lost their homes. PTSD never leave the Nam without it-LOL
