Vegetation Fire Breaks out in Hoopa Area; ‘Structure Threatened’
Scanner traffic indicates fires crews are responding to a vegetation fire “north of Tish-Tang” in the Hoopa area that began before 3:00 p.m. today. Not much is known about this fire yet, so we will update this post when we get more information
UPDATE 3:23 P.M.: A voice over the scanner said there is a “structure threatened.”
UPDATE 3:27 P.M.: Cal Fire spokesperson Laura Coleman has confirmed the fire and says, “CAL FIRE, USFS, HIA are responding and at scene of a vegetation fire, threatening structures in Hoopa.”
UPDATE 3:44 P.M.: Coleman tells us the fire is near Heck Creek and is being referred to as the “Heck Creek Incident.” She says there are four air tankers, one air tactical, two “copter engines,” Type 1 crews and overhead responding to the fire. Additionally, she says there are “5 fires total.”
UPDATE 3:52 P.M.: According to the scanner, mutual aid is being requested for the fire.
