Humboldt Bay Fire Facing Budget Cuts; Some Stations may be Closed
The following is a press release from Humboldt Bay Fire:
Humboldt Bay Fire would like to advise the public that due to impending budget cuts within the City of Eureka, Fire Station 4, located at 1016 Myrtle Ave., will be closed and unstaffed beginning July 1, 2015 and continuing throughout the year depending on daily staffing levels. Signs will be placed on the exterior message board in front of the station, and on the front and rear doors, advising the public when the station is closed for that specific day.
Additionally, due to the potential budget cuts, Station 3, located at 2905 Ocean Ave., may also be closed periodically in addition to Station 4. Signs will be placed at that station as well informing the public of the closure on each specific day.
The public is advised to call 911 in the event of an emergency and the next closest station will be dispatched to respond to the emergency. Additionally, a phone located at the front doors of both Stations 3 and 4 can be used to connect directly with our fire dispatch center to report an emergency.
It is anticipated that the City Council will finalize the City’s budget at the June 16, 2015 City Council meeting and Humboldt Bay Fire will notify the public of any changes in the planned station closures.
Finally, the public is reminded that Fire Station 1 located at 533 C Street, Station 2 located at 750 Herrick, and Station 5 located 3455 Harris Street will remain open and staffed on a daily basis.
