It’s pretty fun out in the garden this time of year, when the hummers are busy acting like Top Gun pilots and indians, counting coup by screaming past your ear so close you feel their displaced air…

This little guy is a traveler Rufous hummingbird . Shows up in the spring takes of in the fall. WE have gotten away from feeders by planting more flowers. This feeder is the best ever. The red cap just pops up over hanger so you can clean it very easy which if you commit to feeders is some times twice day. Gallon of sugar water a day. 4/1 mix works great. Remember if you feed them they a counting on you to help feed their babies. After this I am going put up a feeder. I miss the commotion.

I have made another mistake. The birds on the coast are Allen Hummingbirds, so you have to go to Willow Creek to see Rufous. I always mix them up. That said the two feeders I put up has a dozen or so. What cheap entertainment. Catching a picture in flight is not as easy as I thought.

It may be an Allen’s hummingbird . I think the Rufous have come and gone. At any rate they are very very hard to tell apart .
