The following is a press release from Humboldt Bay Fire:

Eureka fire(2)At 1450 hours on 5-29-15, Humboldt Bay Fire (HBF) was dispatched to a reported structure fire on the 1100 block of Pine St. HBF responded with three engines, one ladder truck and two Chief Officers.First arriving units reported a single story wood frame residential structure with heavy gray smoke pushing from an attached rear garage, and with gray smoke also coming from the roof vents and eves. Additionally, a walk around of the structure found a separate garage to the rear threatened by the fire.

Fire crews initiated an interior fire attack and began to search for occupants that may be inside. Fortunately as the crews were performing the search, the residents were contact and confirmed that everyone had exited safely and that no one was injured. Crews were also able to successfully protect the exposed garage to the rear with no damage.

Due to the old construction of the building, fire crews found pockets of hidden fire in concealed void spaces throughout the residence. Crews worked for approximately one hour to expose the hidden fire, and complete extinguishment.

Total loss to the structure and contents is estimated at approximately $100,000.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, but is under investigation.
