Rio Dell’s Green Bridge Damaged in Traffic Accident, One Lane Closed for Inspection

rd

According to the scanner, the bridge just north of Rio Dell, known locally as the “Green Bridge” was struck earlier today by a piece of heavy equipment being towed on a trailer. A section of the bridge was damaged. (See above photo.) One lane will be closed for inspection.

Caltrans posted,

Caltrans has found that the northbound bridge on U.S. Highway 101 just north of Rio Dell has sustained damage to one of its gusset plates. The gusset plate is an important part of the box girder structure that holds beams to the structure’s columns.

A structures engineer and a maintenance crew have been dispatched to the bridge to inspect the damage and determine what will need to be done to repair the plate.

One lane of the bridge will be closed while the gusset plate is inspected.

How much did it cost YOU?. I love the random spattering. Kinda gets us even with CALTRANS for all the unnecessary crap they do. IMO

i suppose your vendetta to even up with those evil folks at caltrans carries over to motorcyclists who travel over the paint when it’s nice and slick in the morning drizzle as well. thanks for that! [edit]

Wouldn’t surprise me if it wasn’t a cal Trans employee doing the splattering to ensure job security….
It’s been that case many times in all other sectors of government employment, so there.

Better places for paint-on-the-road than bridges.

I was driving behind the truck that hit this when it happened (which was yesterday around noon). I drove over the yellow sign on that bridge yesterday…it was pretty scary. Right in the middle of both lanes. Swerved and knicked the edge. Must have come loose from this accident. It looked like the big truck in front of me blew out a tire or something too. It was hauling a tractor. So, this actually happened yesterday afternoon and they are just getting around to dealing with it today I guess.
