Kinetic Sculpture Race This Weekend (Pssst, There Are Some Traffic Impacts. Be Prepared.)
The Kinetic Sculpture Race clanks, screeches and snorts its way from Arcata to Ferndale this weekend. Racers roll from the starting line at noon in Arcata. Wild and crazy sculptures from the “Triathlon of the Art World” will roll along highways and waterways until arriving in Ferndale on Monday.
A wild, fun party weekend to surpass any other. (See how wild with Duane Flatmo’s 30 years of Kinetic photos here.)
However, for those traveling about, there are a few impacts to the roads you should know about.
Caltrans provided the following headsup:
Route 255 (2.9/6) – Kinetic Universe of Arcata has been issued a Caltrans Encroachment permit for the annual Kinetic Grand Championship from Peninsula Drive to Jackson Ranch Road on Saturday, May 23. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 9 AM to 3 PM. Motorists should anticipate 5-minute delays.
Route 211 (73.2/73.4) – Kinetic Universe, Incorporated, of Arcata, has been issued a Caltrans Encroachment permit for the finish of the annual Kinetic Grand Championship in Ferndale between Ocean Avenue and Shaw Avenue on Monday, May 25, from 12 PM to 5 PM. A full road closure will be in effect. Motorists are advised to use an alternate route. LC#P211GA
Also note there will be a Memorial Day Parade hosted by American Legion Post, of Ferndale on Route 211 (mile markers 73.2/73.9) from Ocean Avenue to Arlington Avenue on Monday, May 25, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Caltrans states, “A full road closure will be in effect. Motorists are advised to use an alternate route.” So with the Kinetic Race and the parade, some areas of Route 211 will be impacted from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
