Water Rescue Near Devil’s Playground

scannerPosted Thursday evening: According to scanner traffic, a canoe has flipped over near the Devil’s Playground in the Bay behind the Bayshore Mall.  Four fire trucks, the Coast Guard and the Eureka Police Department are responding. The female has made it to shore. The male is still in the water by the dock near the refinery. Rescue swimmer in the water.

UPDATE 8:12 p.m.: Humboldt Bay Fire was able to pull both victims from the water. We have a call into Cal Fire requesting more information.

UPDATE 8:15 p.m.: Humboldt Bay Fire Chief Ken Woods told our reporter Oliver Cory, “We got a report of a overturned canoe. We deployed our rescue swimmers.” Woods said the two victims were both pulled safely from the water. The male declined medical attention. However, Woods said that the woman is receiving medical attention. “She’s en route to St. Joe’s,” Woods explained.

Why not get national guard and all military involved as well.
Sounds as if it’s a slow day for all these agencies.
How much is this effort going to cost us??
