A Whale of a Mother’s Day—Poor Mom, Her Calf Has Lice
The dreaded lice…even whale moms have to look out for them.
In the above video, first we see two mother and calf pairs swimming near Patrick’s Point. Then, a closeup shows us that one of the calves might have a bit of a problem–it could have whale lice.
Lice on whales, like those on humans, are parasites. This whale mom needs to find a school of topsmelt which eat the little pests.
Too bad humans don’t have something similar….
