88-Year-Old Woman Tied Up, Assaulted and Robbed

del norte sheriffOn May 5th, 2015 at about 1:35 in the afternoon, the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a subject reporting that her mother-in-law had been tied up and robbed at gunpoint.

Law Enforcement responded to a local business in the 1100 block of Highway 101.
Contact was made with the 88 year old owner/operator of the business. She said that she was in her office, when an unknown white male subject entered. He grabbed her, placing his hand over her mouth and put
her to the ground. The male subject was demanding money.

The suspect struck the victim numerous times on the face and abdomen. After going through the office the male subject dragged the victim to another room, tying her hands and feet.

The suspect drew a small firearm pointing it at the victim threatening to kill her if she attempted to get away. After the suspect left the office, the victim was able to remove the ties, going outside to get help.

The Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office, along with members of the Crescent City Police Department, Crescent City Police K-9 unit, and the California Highway Patrol searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect.

The suspect is described as a white male adult; about 5 foot 7 inches tall, shaven face with the exception of a small black mustache, described as a “Hitler” type mustache, possibly in his twenty’s. He is slender built with a thin face. He was wearing a black long sleeve shirt, dark colored pants and wearing a dark colored beanie type knit cap.

The investigation is continuing. If anyone has any information, please contact the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office at (707)464-4191

I woke up thinking about if people are inherently good or evil. I read about a girl who spent her 21st birthday doing 21 random, kind acts. Aha! We are good. Then I read this trash. What is wrong with people?

I wonder sometimes if it is not the fact of the prison and the school for wayward boys up 199 that attracts so many seriously scary people to Del Norte. People from everywhere end up here, not just because it’s the least expensive option on the coast, but also because they move here to be prison guards or to be near family or friends inside.

Even our Hispanic population seems unhappier than anywhere else in California. I felt outright hate rays waffling off them toward me for years… until… I guess… they decided I was just a nutty old broad who is NOT an enemy. It seems, actually, that there has been a rise in really horrifically creepy young white males — lovingly referred to as “tweakers” by some — milling about in much greater numbers since I noticed the hate wasn’t waffling off the Hispanics anymore. Probably no correlation in the actual, just in my noticing….

Being in Smith River, I have things to do in both Crescent City and Brookings regularly. It is ASTONISHING the difference in these two towns. It is hard to get anyone to even glance up from their scowls down in Crescent City and it is hard to ignore the smiling friendliness of most of the people on the street in Brookings. Night and day.

I know that some counties are doing their best to divest themselves of addicts and homeless and ne’er-do-wells by driving them out to somewhere else. When I lived down in Mendo World, it was Sacramento. I don’t know if they do that here, chauffeur them off to plague someone else, but maybe other counties are now dumping them HERE.

Still, this is going to be increasing EVERYWHERE because we are not seeing to it that young people have healthy options. Nossirreebub. We’re too busy hissing and spitting at each other over idiotic, pointless, despicable, UGLY political delusions to do anything as pragmatic and DECENT as that.

I want to scream over the nihilism and evil of this, but, in equal measure, I know we are doing it to ourselves.

I do notice, though, that if I really set my mind to it, determine myself to be as upbeat as possible when in CC, some people really do respond pleasantly. So all hope is not lost… it’s just more work now.
