Upon the officers arrival, they located several subjects standing in the alleyway next to an unconscious male lying on the ground. The unconscious male was later identified as Daniel Epperson (24) of Arcata. The involved parties and several witnesses said that Epperson, who was unknown to the group, had approached them in the alley and become argumentative and aggressive. During the argument Epperson took out a bat that had been made into a Billy Club and started hitting one of the subjects with it. The victim was struck several times on the head.

One of the subjects in the group started to head to a nearby open business to report the assault to the police. Epperson followed the subject and confronted him with the bat. The subject, fearing for his safety, punched Epperson one time and knocked him out.

Epperson was examined on-scene by medical personnel and refused medical service. Epperson was placed under arrest for 245(a)(1) PC, Assault with a Deadly Weapon and 22210 PC, Possession of a Billy Club.

The victim was transported to the Mad River Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

When acting like a tough guy with a weapon fails….

Let’s hope this isn’t the real story and someone didn’t run off while their friend was being attacked by some maniac city slicker with a stick.

Violent people can only be stopped with overwhelming force and then some.

Glad to see people waking up and walking tall- shoplifter taken down by property owner, now this. If enough of these type of people are set on a better path for their actions, less will try to loot in rural communities. They seem to understand one type of communication.

The answer is to keep moving further out into less populated areas, gate up, fence off, and name your Private Idaho property. Like a shark smelling blood in the water, city people will continue infiltration, looting, and destruction of rural values with their nonsense. We as rural Americans need to draw the line in the sand and correct these types when they cross it in their quest to wreck rural lifestyles.

Arcata’s gotten so bad because the neo hippie types are weak and easy to push over. People can read this story and think about how it could be brought back by teaching respect and welcoming these types to the human race.
