Emergency Crews Responded to Medical Incident at Arcata Community Pool Friday
This afternoon a swimmer at the Arcata Community pool experienced a serious health issue. Staff and emergency personnel responded. Some patrons believed they had witnessed a drowning. In order to dispel misconceptions, Lawre Maple, the manager of the pool, released the following statement.
Earlier today a medical emergency occurred with a swimmer at the Arcata Community Pool. Appropriate rescue procedures were initiated and EMS was called to assist. It should be emphasized that this was a medical emergency and not a drowning.
The patient was successfully transported to Mad River Hospital by EMS.
I would like to note that we have never had a ‘drowning’ at the Arcata Community Pool. We take the safety and well being of our patrons seriously. I would like to commend our pool lifeguard team and local EMS for a job well done.
Jenny Williamson of the Arcata Fire District said that her agency responded with a Battalion Chief and an engine. Arcara-Mad River Ambulance also responded.
