According to KRCRTV, the Eureka City Council agreed to return the city’s portion of Indian Island to the Wiyot tribe at today’s council meeting. (Some parcels are not owned by either the Wiyot tribe or the city. Those parcels are not directly affected by the decision.) The large island in the Humboldt Bay is the site of the World Renewal Ceremony and the site of an infamous massacre.
Read more about tonight’s decision here.

That’s pretty cool, it’s about time.
Now that is good news!
The world renewal ceremony is working.
Need to put in docks
Thankful for this direction. Healing
Now, from the mournful past of this island ,may the rightful inhabitants bring forth hope , balance and peace to this world. I have unwavering faith . . .
I just had to go down to Crescent City to do errands. I told everybody I came across and they all cheered.
It only makes sense to give it back to the Indians. It’s now sacred grounds and the Indians are the only ones that could ever utilize it. It will be interesting to see what they do with it.
I would like it to become a cultural center with an indian history museum on the less sacred portions of the Island.
