According to KRCRTV, the Eureka City Council agreed to return the city’s portion of Indian Island to the Wiyot tribe at today’s council meeting. (Some parcels are not owned by either the Wiyot tribe or the city. Those parcels are not directly affected by the decision.) The large island in the Humboldt Bay is the site of the World Renewal Ceremony and the site of an infamous massacre.
