College Admissions Workshops for juniors, sophomores and their parents on March 24 at South Fork

College Admissions expert consultant Dr. Robert Colvig will be on the South Fork High School campus all day Tuesday, March 24th, meeting with students and parents and conducting interactive workshops with sophomores and juniors to maximize their college admissions potential. Students will work with him during the school day and all interested parents are encouraged to attend an informal Q&A session starting at 3:30 in the South Fork library. There will also be a presentation on navigating the ever-changing world of financial aid during the after-school session.

Dr. Bob, as he is known, specializes in linking rural students to the best possible fit for post secondary education, whether the student’s goals are to attend a four-year university or to earn a certificate at a junior college. Based in Willits he understands the challenges our students face and is able to inspire and instill confidence in rural students.

“Dr. Bob made me feel much more comfortable about the whole process of applying to college and he was behind me and my parents every step of the way,” says local top South Fork senior Cole Moody, who has yet to decide which college he will attend of the many he has been admitted to.

Colvig started his education career in 1973. He has worked for UC Berkeley as an Admissions/Recruitment Specialist where he was an application reader and for UC San Diego as an Adjunct Faculty member where he taught college counseling courses. His emphasis is upon making the college application process stress free and matches his advising to family needs. Dr. Bob was also an award winning wrestling coach having appeared in Sports Illustrated Faces in the Crowd, his teams set two national records, and he was Coach of the Year numerous times. Dr. Bob received a Bachelor of Arts from Wittenberg University in Business Administration, a Master of Public Administration from Chico State University, a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology, and Doctorate in Educational Leadership from University of San Francisco.
