The US National Weather Service released today that “this is the warmest winter on record here in Northwest California.” The average temperature in Eureka this winter has been 52.2 which is .2 higher than the previous record in the winter of 1939-40.  Other northwestern areas of California show even greater rises in average temperature. (See photo above.)

However, tonight is expected to be quite chilly. “Low temperatures will drop into the low to mid 30s for coastal areas and will be 32F degrees or less in interior Northwest California valleys,” says the weather site.

If the weather has to be screwy…I’m glad I’m on the easy end of the continent!

Easy end?? Wait until there is NO water AND everything is burning this summer. I cry over the demise of our fisheries and ALL the life forms that depend on it. The reality is that things have flipped! What was once considered ‘beautiful” weather is NOW very BAD weather!
PS. I am not screaming using CAPS, just using for emphasis.

Seems like your old co “workers” scan your site to see what to post?

Kym, great job ditching that crew and getting back to your own gig. Looking forward to more photography and real stories.

Best wishes and really looking forward to seeing you move forward!

I so totally have needed the respite on the power bill. A few years back I decided it was better to just invest in some good sweaters and it’s paid off. There have been a few times I still needed to hit the switch, but, especially this year, not so much. If I lived too far east of here, though, I’d be on a forced diet every winter for sure.

Expect more drought, higher temperatures in the west, more snow and colder temperatures in the east, more floods and tornadoes in the mid-west and south. In short: extreme “weather events” happening wth more frequency.Adaptation is the key, but it won’t an easy path.
